Dog in the River

Dog in the River

My dog is drowning alone in the cold river.
I guess it tried to run and catch the stick
That I still hold in my hand – maybe for ever.
It trusted me too much, and wants me to pick
It up from the freezing water that makes it bark.
And instead of helping the poor, desperate creature
I just go along my way into the park.
To spoil my new hair-do I won’t venture.
You must think I’m heartless, evil, vicious;
And I dare say that you are certainly right.
Being afraid of dying is very malicious…
Tell me: will you dive into water tonight?

Cats are cleverer since they would never have drowned there:
In their life Fear is their most reliable partner.
